Science of Agriculture has successfully completed its 17th year! The two-day program is hosted by the Ohio Agriculture Research and Development Center (OARDC) in Wooster, Ohio and was attended by almost 500 middle school students. The goal of the event is to ignite students’ passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Ohio State University faculty, staff, volunteers, and future AgriScience Education pre-service teachers from the College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) all collaborated to provide fun and interactive activities for students to complement existing middle school curriculum. AgriScience Education pre-service teachers gain classroom experience by leading multiple sessions of students through hands-on activities around subjects like erosion, solar energy, microscopes, sustainability, plants, and the environment. Outdoor sessions are also led at Secrest Arbretum and the Williams Hall Greenhouse so students get the full experience of touring the OARDC campus.
OBIC appreciates the continued support for Science of Agriculture from parents, students, teachers, and beyond. With the accomplishment of this past year’s event, we look forward to continuing to plan next year’s Science of Agriculture.
