Next week we will be at Science of Agriculture 2017! This will be the 16th year of the program hosted by Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) in Wooster, Ohio. It is also OARDC’s biggest event of the year. This year Science of Agriculture 2017 is taking place October 17-18.
Science of Agriculture is a free and interactive educational program. Last year, 1,000 middle schoolers from grades 6-8 attended the program to learn about fun things in agriculture. The goal of the program is to ignite students’ passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The program offers a variety of sessions such as tours of Secrest Arboretum, Creating Compost, Solar Energy, Greenhouse Laboratory, hands-on activities with microscopes, visit to the Bug Zoo, plus many more exciting activities related to the science of agriculture. Ohio State faculty, staff, and other collaborators provide the activities that complement middle school classroom curriculum. Future AgriScience Education pre-service teachers from OSU’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences also help make the event successful by teaching sessions during the event.
