Commercialization and Economic Development

Testing and Marketplace Trials. OBIC utilizes the vast networking resources of OSU and alliance members to build collaborations for product testing, marketplace validation and commercial applications.

The Center for Innovation-Based Enterprise (CIBE), based in the OSU Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics, was established in May 2006. Director Marvin Batte and CIBE economists provide research and guidance on commercialization, entrepreneurship, contract design, finance, marketing, and risk management for innovation-based and start-up ag-bioscience enterprises.

ATECH, based in the OSU College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, provides expertise in marketing, business development, intellectual property management and technology transfer. The program works to foster and accelerate economic development, with a primary focus on food, agricultural, environmental and life science technologies.

OBIC also works closely with PolymerOhio, an industry association for the states 2,800+ polymer facilities. PolymerOhio provides a broad range of technical and business services and has considerable experience conducting techno-economic analyses for Ohio's plastics, rubber and advanced materials industries.

Battelle Memorial Institute (Battelle) is a global science and technology enterprise that develops and commercializes technology and manages or co-manages laboratories in the U.S. and abroad. Battelle oversees a staff of 20,000 scientists, engineers and support specialists, and conducts $3.4 billion in annual research and development. Battelle serves the U.S. Department of Energy in the operation of the Pacific Northwest National Lab, Oak Ridge National Lab, the National Renewable Energy Lab and other national laboratories.
