The Ohio Department of Development has just released some preliminary information of the Fiscal Year 2010 funding opportunities for Third Frontier Advanced Energy and Advanced Materials Programs. As expected, the Third Frontier Program has been impacted by the State budget conditions. These two program areas continue to be viewed as critical to the Cluster Development Program within the Third Frontier effort. The Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Advanced Energy Program will be available in late July. The total request must not exceed $1 million (plus capital) and preference will be given to wind, biomass, and storage projects. The RFP for Advanced Materials will be available in October. The total request must not exceed $1 million (plus capital) and preference will be given to polymer composites, carbon-nano matrials, and bioproduct projects. For more information, contact OBIC (614-292-2922) or visit the Ohio Department of Development's website: thirdfrontier.com/FiscalYear2010_ProgramOpportunities.htm OBIC is in the process of building bioproduct and advanced energy supply chain teams for the purpose of driving commercialization projects. It is common knowledge that industrial collaborators value extramural funding to lessen corporate risk and accelerate economic gains. The Ohio Department of Development’s Third Frontier Program has proven to be a valuable source of financial support in pushing Ohio-based innovations towards commercialization.
